Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 at 3:15pm, unless otherwise noted.
 

Our Vision: Our community, strengthened by character development in our schools, families and businesses, is a guiding light for all citizens and the foundation of a healthy society.
Our Mission: Our mission is to foster a common language that recognizes, discusses, and supports the six pillars of character throughout Glen Ellyn. This will result in a community that teaches, enforces, advocates and models trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
Our Goals:

Make a character education program visible in all community areas (YMCA, Library,Village Hall, Park Dist.,Police Dept., Fire Dept, Schools, Businesses, etc.)

Increase community involvement to heighten awareness of the six pillars of character.

Integrate character education into new and existing programs of education, recreation and service.

Honor those who work and/or live in Glen Ellyn through the Person of Character Awards.

THE SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER
 
  • TRUSTWORTHINESS: Be honest-Don't deceive, cheat or steal-do what you say you'll do-Have the courage to do the right thing-Build a good reputation-Be loyal-stand by your family, friends, community
  • RESPECT: Be tolerant of differences-Use good manners, not bad language-Be considerate of the feelings of others-Don't threaten, hit or hurt anyone
  • RESPONSIBILITY: Do what you are supposed to do-Persevere:keep on trying!-Always do your best-Use self-control-Be self-disciplined-Think before you act-consider the consequences-Be accountable for your choices
  • FAIRNESS: Play by the rules-Take turns and share-Be open-minded; listen to others-Don't take advantage of others-Don't blame others carelessly
  • CARING: Be kind-Be compassionate and show you care-express gratitude-Forgive others-Help people in need
  • CITIZENSHIP: Do your share to make your community better-VOTE Cooperate-Stay informed-Be a good neighbor-Protect the environment-Obey laws and rules

  Every month, the Glen Ellyn Character Coalition honors a member of our community who demonstrates the six pillars of character. Winners' profiles appear once a month in The Sun. If you know someone who lives or works in Glen Ellyn and deserves to be honored in this way, please download a nomination form.

Any individual or group who supports the vision and mission of the GLEN ELLYN CHARACTER COALITION is more than welcome to join and further the realization of our goals. If you have questions about joining or about the aims and/or structure of our organization, please email us at:

Dues to support our efforts are submitted on an annual basis (our year running from July to July):

___ Institutional member $50
___ Sustaining Institutional member (following years) $100
